obviously it’s a bit early in my journey to make such a proclamation, but on the back roads and highways that I’ve been on, the majority of what you see is abandonment and decay. buildings, businesses, homes, cars just left and then gradually overgrown.
I think it’s funny how in the city the cool thing to do in the (especially) Brooklyn style of design is to recreate this decay, thus giving an establishment “character”. and in some ways I get it: this look is hauntingly beautiful and holds a depth of history. but when you see house after house, business after business like this, the aggregate effect isn’t very stylish or cool - it feels like something inside the country got really messed up along the way.
